Alibaba Ranks First in the 2017 Global Blockchain Patent.

Reportedly, IPRdaily, an Intellectual Property Media, and incoPat, an innovation indexing research center have recently released “Top 100 Blockchain Companies for Number of Blockchain Patents Globally Published in 2017”. The list ranks the blockchain companies based on the number of blockchain patents published in 2017 ( without merging applicants).
The figures show the number of patents publicly published globally in 2017 across such patent types as invention, utility and design. Among the top 100 companies, 49 are from China, ranking first in the list. In the second place is the Bank of America with 33 companies listed.
Notably, Alibaba topped the list with 43 patents published and the Bank of America ranked second, followed by the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China (PBoC’s), second only to Alibaba within China.
In addition, Hangzhou Qulian Technology Co., Ltd. ranked 11, Tencent Technology Co., Ltd. 23 and WeBank Co., Ltd. 47. See table blow.
Alibaba has currently applied blockchain technology into multiple scenarios, and has partnered with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) in March 2017 to develop a transparent blockchain cross-border food supply chain to reduce fraud in food frauds.
